Finding out that your partner is facing an unplanned pregnancy can be a life-changing moment. You may feel shocked, uncertain, or unsure of what to say and how to support her, and that’s a normal reaction.

What matters most is how you communicate with her during this time and remind her that she does not have to navigate this alone.

La Luz Women’s Center is here for you both throughout this unplanned pregnancy. We provide no-cost pregnancy testing, limited ultrasounds, and accurate information about pregnancy options in a confidential environment.

You are both welcome to come to the center together. Contact us to schedule your appointment.

Slow Down Before Making Decisions

It’s normal to experience strong emotions when you first find out your partner is pregnant. You may immediately begin worrying about finances, your relationship, or what the future could look like, and those concerns are completely understandable.

Take some time to think about what things concern you most and consider writing them down. You may be surprised to learn that many resources and support services are available.

If you react in a way you regret, talk to your partner and tell her you need a little time to gather your thoughts, but reassure her that you care about her and want to support her while you both process the news.

Keep Communicating With Her

Keep communication open and honest. Talk with her, listen carefully to her concerns, and ask questions about how she is feeling. You may feel tempted to avoid a conversation right now, but having the courage to talk about this together can create a stronger foundation of trust.

Ask what she needs rather than assuming what she wants. She may not want you to go into problem-solving mode and instead would appreciate you just being there for her.

Learn About Your Options Together

Learning accurate information about your pregnancy options together can help you both feel more informed and confident. At La Luz Women’s Center, we can give you information about your options, including parenting, adoption, and abortion

We also recommend a limited ultrasound to confirm her pregnancy and get important medical information, such as the location of the pregnancy, how far along the pregnancy is, and whether the pregnancy appears to be developing.

Be There for Her

Your support can make a meaningful difference as you both navigate this unexpected pregnancy together. You might not have all the answers, but you can show her care, respect, and willingness to be by her side throughout this.

Practical ways you can support her include:

  • Listening without judgment
  • Attending appointments with her if she wants you there
  • Helping research available resources
  • Offering practical help when she needs it
