Our trained advocates at La Luz Women’s Center are here to provide the information you need to make a confident decision about your unplanned pregnancy.
If you choose to parent your child, we’ll provide you with the resources, referrals, and emotional support it takes.
Do I Have What It Takes to Be A Parent?
Deciding to parent is a big decision but comes with great rewards. Maybe you’re thinking, “How do I raise a child?” or “How can I afford baby supplies?”
The best way to raise a child is with a strong support system. You don’t have to do it alone. There are people like us willing to support you through your parenting journey.
Parenting While A Student
It is possible to parent your child and stay in school. Finishing your education is better for both of you.
The United States Department of Education enforces Title IX, a law designed to protect pregnant and parenting students. Under Title IX, you have a right to complete your education without being harassed or excluded.
The staff at La Luz Women’s Center understands the challenges of parenting. We’re dedicated to acting as a support system for you and your family.
We provide no-cost, individualized parenting classes to all our clients and encourage you to include your partner or other family members who want to learn with you.
Our programs include:
- Fetal Development
- Pregnancy and Childbirth
- Infant and Early Childhood Development
- Positive Partnerships
- Practical Fatherhood
- Authentic Men
We hope to educate and support you in preparing for and taking care of your child or children.
Earn While You Learn
Clients can use the credit they’ve earned to “purchase” items from our stock of maternity and infant clothes, furnishings, and other baby items by attending classes.
We have many partners in the community who can help you with other areas of your life. These services include:
- Medical Care
- STD Testing
- Social Services
- Professional Counseling
- Continuing Education
- Spiritual Guidance (from churches of various denominations)
*If you are homeless and in need of housing resources, clients can complete a Coordinated Housing Assessment at our center. These assessments are turned into the New Mexico Coalition to End Homelessness, determining eligibility and placement.
